Email marketing is still one of the best ways to connect with your audience — but how do you build a list when you’re just starting out? Here are five simple steps.

1. Offer something valuable

People won’t give up their email address for nothing. Offer a helpful freebie: a discount code, a guide, a checklist, or a quick video tutorial — whatever your audience would find useful.

2. Create a simple sign-up form

Use a free email platform like Mailchimp to build a sign-up form. Make it short (just name and email!) and place it where people will see it — like on your homepage, blog, or pop-up. If you’re a Jottful customer, contact Support and we’ll add it to your website for you.

3. Promote it on social media

Let your followers know about your lead magnet and invite them to sign up. A simple post or story with a link can bring in lots of new subscribers over time.

4. Add it to your checkout or appointment-booking form

If someone’s already interacting with your business, they may be happy to join your mailing list — you just need to ask. Add an opt-in checkbox to collect emails (with permission!).

5. Be consistent — and patient

Your list won’t grow overnight. Stay consistent with your efforts and keep promoting your sign-up wherever your audience is. Over time, you’ll build a list of people who actually want to hear from you.

💡 WEBSITE INSIGHT: Your website should have at least one clear, visible way for visitors to join your list. A signup form on the homepage is a great start.
