Has the time come to move beyond thesaurus.com and try out some new writing tools? If so, you’re in luck!

Here are five fun and useful tools to tighten up — and lighten up — your writing.

1. Emojipedia

A Jottful favorite, this is your all-in-one source for emojis! You can even see how they’ll look on different devices.

2. Grammarly

If you watch videos on YouTube, you’ve probably seen one of their ads. Grammarly is a writing assistant that helps you string together “bold, clear, mistake-free” words.

3. Hemingway App

Also a writing assistant, this tool can help you recognize too-long sentences with complicated words. It can make your writing more universally understood.

4. ActiveCampaign’s subject-line generator

While you’re unlikely to find the perfect subject line or headline using this tool, we often use it to inspire us. Throw in some keywords and give it a whirl!

5. AnswerThePublic

We first mentioned this tool in our blog post, 5 free resources for the budding SEO professional in you, but it’s useful enough it’s worth mentioning again.

Starting with the topic of your choice, this tool spits out all kinds of who, what, when, where, why, and how questions that people ask about that topic. It’s a great way to brainstorm new angles for your writing.
